The Road to 14,000 Miles: A Love Story (and a Very Reliable E-bike)

The Road to 14,000 Miles: A Love Story (and a Very Reliable E-bike)

When most people turn 75, they might think about slowing down. But for one couple in our AIMA family, 75 was simply the beginning of a new adventure.

In May 2023, they decided to trade their traditional bicycles for e-bikes—a way to keep their daily ritual alive while exploring further than ever before. He chose the AIMA Santa Monica; she initially chose a different brand.

A Daily Ritual, Rain or Shine

For this couple, riding isn't just a hobby; it’s a shared language. Nearly every morning, they set out for 25 to 40 miles, chasing the morning light and enjoying the fresh air, pausing only for the heaviest rain or fog.

However, a shadow fell over their morning rides when the wife’s bike began to struggle. While the husband’s AIMA hummed along perfectly, her bike spent more time in the repair shop than on the road. At one point, it became so unreliable they had to buy a "backup" bike just so she wouldn't miss their time together.

Finding the Missing Piece

After three different bikes from the other brand failed to keep up, she finally made the switch. She traded in the frustration for her own AIMA Santa Monica.

The result? The "backup" bike is now gathering dust in the garage. She has since put 3,000 trouble-free miles on her AIMA, and for the first time in years, the couple can simply ride without worrying about when—or if—they’ll make it back home.

The Honest 14,000-Mile Journey

While his wife found her stride, the husband was quietly hitting a massive milestone. If you look at his bike today, the odometer proudly displays 10,000 miles. But there’s a little secret behind that number.

"A proud 10,000 miles shown on the new display! Including the original 4,000 miles before a warranty replacement, this Santa Monica has officially conquered 14,000 miles of road.”

Earlier in his journey, at the 4,000-mile mark, his display computer had a glitch. AIMA’s warranty service stepped in immediately, replacing it with a brand-new one to get him back on the road. Combined, his Santa Monica has carried him through a staggering 14,000 miles.

What does 14,000 miles look like on an AIMA?

  • It looks like a battery that still keeps pace with a brand-new bike.
  • It looks like original tires that have seen thousands of sunrises.
  • It looks like just 15 minutes a week of love and care to keep the adventure going.

"I hope to get another 10,000 miles!"

Through 90% paved roads and 10% off-road trails, their Santa Monicas have been more than just machines—they’ve been dependable companions. They offer the comfort to ride longer and the reliability to dream bigger.

"These bikes have been dependable and comfortable on our rides," he says. "I hope to get another 10,000 miles on mine!"

At AIMA, we don't just build bikes; we build the bridge to your next 10,000 miles of memories. Whether you’re 25 or 75, the road is waiting for you.

Maintenance Tip from the Rider"Every weekend, I spend 15 minutes cleaning the bikes, checking the tires, and oiling the chain. It’s a small ritual that keeps us moving.”
